Hi, I'm Michelle
As a dedicated online English tutor with 8 years of experience, I founded Passion Plus English to create a supportive space where students thrive. I hold a First-Class BA in English Literature and am ranked in the top 5% of Tutorful educators. Also a qualified English Foreign Language Tutor, I hold a current Advanced Disclosure DBS Certificate and over 5000 hours of online teaching experience.
My Story
My journey with English began long before I became a tutor. As a child, I was lucky enough to live on the same street as a charity shop full of books; there I spent all of my pocket money. There was no greater joy than adding my name underneath those of previous owners in my finest handwriting.
In 2018, I graduated as a mature student with a First-Class BA in English Literature: a milestone that felt like reclaiming a part of myself I’d set aside. That same year, I began teaching English online to students in China and Japan. Watching a shy student gain confidence to read out loud, or a teenager master essay structure, confirmed what I'd always known: words matter.
After years of one-on-one tutoring and working as a cover supervisor in schools, I realised something was missing. Students often told me, “school is exhausting, it's all just exams.” As a mum to two teenagers (now 18 and 15), I’ve lived this struggle. I’ve stayed up late helping my daughter revise Macbeth and soothed my youngest child's SATs day nerves whilst chanting times tables. Was this really nurturing a passion for learning?
I’ve tutored over 5,000 hours online, guiding students through 7+, 11+, GCSEs, and beyond. But my proudest moments aren’t the top grades, they’re the emails from parents saying, “Dinner times are now always a topical debate about books." Or, when the student who has wanted to remain quiet in class, stays behind to share their poem with me.
That’s why I launched Passion Plus English: a space where students don’t just study for exams; they discover how language can ignite their imagination. Whether it’s through group workshops dissecting dystopian novels or creative writing sessions where GCSE students craft their own sonnets, I want learning to feel like an adventure.
